Hi,
I'm Katie
I'm passionate about changing lives through coaching.

I fully understand the drive for personal and professional growth and have been in the same position as many professionals looking to take things to the next level and achieve their goals. I've also experienced the power of coaching and know that it can help you to achieve your own success. Because of this, when you're coached by me, it isn't just a transactional experience, its personal and its transformational.

I'm also a firm advocate for the professionalisation of the coaching industry and therefore am an ILM qualified coach and a member of the EMCC (European Mentoring and Coaching Council). Additionally, I hold a first class honours MSc in Positive Psychology and Wellbeing with a specific focus on behaviour change.

Career-wise, my background is in working in the Higher Education sector (specifically within student support). I have extensive experience of managing teams and projects alongside developing e-learning training. I'm an internal coach at the University of Manchester and a member of the University's Coaching Community of Practice working group.

I use this combination of knowledge, skills and experience to shape my coaching practice while keeping the client at the heart of everything I do.
My coaching approach
With my experience as a certified coach and my master’s degree in psychology, I believe in using evidence-based techniques to help people to achieve their goals. My approach is grounded in coaching psychology, positive psychology and other established coaching practices and is tailored to meet each client where they are.

I adopt a strengths-based perspective to help my coachees seek solutions and opportunities to move forward in a way that is aligned to them - rather than focusing on problems. This enables me to develop bespoke solutions which are customised to the coachee and means that I'm coaching you as a person and not just coaching the problem. The areas I specialise in include:

-
Confidence (and understanding the difference between self-confidence, self-efficacy and self-esteem)
-
Comparing yourself to others
-
Decision-making
-
Goal-setting
-
Imposter syndrome
-
Developing a growth mindset
-
Motivation

While I specialise as a professional development coach, I also fully appreciate that our personal lives play a key role in this and often adopt a holistic approach to our coaching discussions while keeping your wellbeing in mind at all times.

My coaching philosophy
I believe that the coachee is the expert in the room and my role is to ask the right questions to dig deep and move forward in a way that works best for them. This can sometimes mean introducing a bit of supportive challenge and sharing my observations or instinct.
Asking questions (rather than giving answers) ties in with one of the principle theories of motivation in psychology: self-determination theory (SDT; Ryan and Deci, 2008). In SDT, actions that are intrinsically motivated (i.e. aligned with the self) result in more growth and are better for our wellbeing.

Using this person-centred approach, I'm able help people to make the most of their talents and strengths in order to reach more of their potential in life.

Change is difficult – but it's also essential for growth. Coaching brings about the support and direction you need to navigate this in a way that works best for you.
